Earl Balfour last month concluded his; course of Gifford lectures on natural theology at Glasgow University. In all Lord Balfour gave twenty lectures, which he explained will be amplified and pub fished in book form. There was a record attendance, and at the close Principal Sir Donald Macalister expressed the gratitude of the University and the citizens to Lord Balfour, who, in acknowledging, said he doubted if any philosophic lecturer in the world had ever had so large, attentive, and faithful an audience as he bad enjoyed.
At the outset of his final lecture Lord Balfour recalled that they had been dis cussing three great values, all vital to the highest life of mankind. These might be described as ethical values, which to preferred to describe as love, esthetia value or beauty, and cognitive values or trath.
