A special correspondent of Lloyd's List wrote that for Messrs. Alfred Holt and Co. or the Ocean Steamship Ce, there are now under construction four motor ships equipped with machinery of dif forent types. One of these is being built Tazzino 752 by Scott's Shipbuilding and Engineering Co., and will be propelled by Still com bined steam and Diesel engines, another by the Caledon Shipbuilding Co., in which twin-screw Burmeister and Wain machinery of 8,000 h.p. will be installed, while the remaining two are under cou- struction at Palmers yard at Jarrow.

Each of these latter vessels is a cargo ship of about 10,000 tons deadweight, and, unlike the arrangement in the two Scottish-built craft, single-screw machin. ory is to be employed. In one case a b.p. six-cylinder Camellaird- 3,000 Fullagat rootor will be fitted, developing its power at 66r.p.m. and having cylind ers 23 in. in diameter, the piston stroke. being 38 in.
