KOWLOON MOTOR-BUS COMPANY SURD FOR DAMAGES.,

HAWKER CLAIMS $1,000 FOR DEATH OF SMALL CHILD. la the Summary Court, yesterday morning, before Mr. Justice Gomperta," a hawker, named Tsang Kwai, of Sam Shui Po, brought an action for damager ugainst the Kowloon, Motor-Bus Ompony. The plaintiff is the father of a small girl; named Paang Tai, who was knocked down by motor-bus No. 647, in Shanghai Street, - on October 17th, and fatally injured. He alleges that that the death of his child was due to the negligent driving of the defendants or their servants and claims $1,000 damages and costs.

Mr. A. S. Russ appeared for the plaintif and Mr. R. E. A. Webster was for the defence.

Mr. Russ said the facts were" that about 9 p.m. on October 17th the deceased was walking with her mother and a won friend down Shanghai Streek, towards' Youmati. On reaching the junc.. tion of Taipo Rond they were walking towards the middle of the road, slightly on the right hand side. The plaintiff's story was that whilst they were walking a motor-bus, driven by the defendante servants, came up from behind, rounded the corger, swerved across the road, and struck the child who was walking in the centre of the road between the two. The bus ran over the child and afterwards struck the woman friend somewhere be tween the knee and the thigh, causing a bruise. The bus was travelling „ata fair speed and went a considerable dis tance before pulling up. The child was takon to the Kwong Wah Hospital whero she died at 4 p.m. the same day.
