EMPRESS FREDERICK AND KAISER WILHELM.

A MOTHER ON HER SON,

REMARKABLE- LETTERS.-

[FROM TEH DAILY TELEGRAPE'S

CORRESPONDENT. ]

BERLIN, December 22nd. Seldom have the ex-Kaiser and his politics been more scathingly condemned thah in the letters of his mother now pablished in the biography of Frau Henrietta Schrader, wife of a well-known beral politician. The correspondence shows once more how differont the fate of Europe, would have been if the Emperor Frederick had been vouchsafed a few more years of life, and had hail the opportunity of putting into practice those ideas which he shared with his enlightened Consort. Nowhere is this mere clearly demon strated than in a letter written to Frau Bohrader from Homburg after the visit of Wilhelm II. to England in July, 1891.

"I should feel pride and delight over the English visit as the reception of W. Y like a triumphal procession," saya the Empress Frederick ironically, in opening her letter,. "but how could I do that! Rather deep melancholy' will fill me even if I succeed in fighting down' all the more violent and bitter feelings...

"

After stating that it bad been the wish! of her father and husband that the two nations should work together at the development of culture, be continues:"

EX-KAISER "AND, ENGLAND. "How much good, especially for Germany, we hoped from this relation- ship of the two peoples. Instead of that, we have beca compelled to experience that in Germany, the tasks of culture have been more and more thrust into the back- ground, and external, power has been made the aim at the expense of internal consolidation and development. Many evil seeds sprouted up, among them artificially generated poisonous weeds, Chauvinism which was based on hatred of "foreign nations,

especially of England, comical mixture of envy, mistrust, fear, and depreciation! This Bong of rancour against England has been sung in every key! For freedom, of course, there was no use in Germany! ! individual Constitution, Parliament,

herself and her husband, and which THE INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL closes with the following remarkable prophetic words:

"But the end of the drama is not yet in sight. What may we not live to see? The bead encircled by an aireole of luck is not immune, and any day may bring!! a memento. One can alment foresee some thing of the kind, and one trembles when one thinks of the dangers in which we live. But there is a special God for children and the scatterbrains. One can only, pray that insight, calm foresight, and premonition may come without it being necessary to pay for wisdom by dissstrona experiences. It seems to me that the Monarchy is being put to a hard test, and I shudder at the thought of the burn things may take?!

The Empress next criticize the men in her son's entourage, and says: Every influence which is in any way felt as a hindrance is shaken off.
