The present issue of the Almanac marks, one step towards a return to the standards which prevailed before the European War: it has been found possible to use, for both text and advertisements, paper which is distinctly superior in quality to that which had to be employed for several of the preceding volumes. It is hoped, if printing paper continues to show abatement in its price that the paper for succeeding issues may be provided in a manner still more bestting a publication which remains on the shelves of many readers long after the expira tion of the period to which it relates.

“WHITAKER'S ALMANAC- ‘1923.”.

Whitaker's Almanse was published a little earlier than usual and in conse."« quence gives the new Cabinet and the new Parlament. The readers will therefore have an early and permanent record. "Many other new features are contained in the present issue, the Provisional Government of the Irish Free State and the Deputies of the Dail being amongst them, while the London County Council is also a newly elected body, containing many names which have" not hitherto appeared in Whitaker."

The Inder has again been enlarged and now contains upwards of 10,000 references, and readers with a statistical bent may be interested to learn that the present edition of "Whitaker" contains upwards of 1,200,000 words ia its 201 pages-about ten times the number contained in "If Winter Comes," which is sold to the public at Seven Shillings and Six Pence.
