FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT, ISABEL
RAMSAY.]
FARI, December 18th.
The rest-gown is an indispensable gar- ment in the wardrobe of the busy woman, especially if it is modelled according to the latest modern ideals in such matters. for then it will combine the comfort of the neglige with the elegance of the simpla dinner-gown. A model of this type can easily be combined by fashioning a long waisted jacket affair of cream lace for silver, gold or metal lace, adding a
loose, capo back and drawing this in well, below the waist with a belt of pink satin roses. Such a garment can be particul arly useful when made of black lace and worn over a black satin skirt:
Crepe de Chine is used for the simpler type of rest-gown, and for materials. which aim at being a little brighter and more original, there are printed satins and crepes de Chine on which are strewn a host of quaint designs.
Materials of this type, covered with designs that have been borrowed from the legends of Old Japan, are chosen "for making up into the modern version of the kimono. Few dressing or rest gowns, if they be of the decorative type, have sleeves these days. When they do figure, they are long, very wide and made of lace of soma transparent material. More often, however, sleeves are replaced by voluminous shoulder wings set in at the! back, that float about in an easy, restful manner. The kimono, when recreated in its European guise, is, of course, en exception to the general rule of sleeve JessDea
and le dsually seen with extra long sleeves that just miss trailing on the ground."

The modern tea-gown is such a magni- ficent affair that it is much-netrer being an evening-gown than one to ba worn only in the intimacy of one's boudoir. Greek draperies lend themselves far better than, anything else to this type of dress, so that the majority of the models, designed by, the big dress makers show simple, draped lines. If decoration is needed, it takes the forta of handsome cabouchons or buckles that held in place the to one draperies that are swathed

side After the Grecian type of tea-gown the one that has been inspired by Orient- al ideals comes next in favour. The materials used in the making of these is rich in texture and bright in colouring. and it is invariably used in conjunction with gold and silver lame the coat part. too. is always cut in a stiff, regal sort of
Way.
Molyneux who is famed for his ten- gowns. always designs a special head dress to be worn with each one. When to tra gown is Oriental in stype, the head- dress follows suit by taking the form of La disdom, or strands of similar amd material to that which figures in the dress, twisted through the hair. When the ten-gown is Oriental in style, the head- dress is either silver or gold lam turban, or else a turban effect is created by encircling the head low down on the forehead with a twisted roll of 7amé and some other material through which a trend of pearls is threaded that finishee in long loops that fall over the cars:
As well as head-dresses, the slippers worn with rest or tea gown must always he in keeping. Naturally the slipper with a heel is preferable to the heel less model. as the latter is always inclined to look slip-shod and careless. Dainty fear ther alippers are very fashionable just mow. Some prefer the flat, glrerined type of feather that reflects a host of scintillating coloura; whilst others choose the breast of a dove or duck and trim it with a fringe of ostrich feathers for the fashioning of these charming novelties.
Soft d in the gayest of colours also makes up into exquisite little slippers for Madame to pull on when she "ie" feeling jaded and weary. Satin, too, plays it part very gracefully in this guise, especi ally when a border of ermine is added. Naturally, the colour of the kid or satin is chosen to harmonise with that of the rest or tea gown

This is far more expensive, too, than any other type, for the double reason that the mills where this dainty fabric is fashioned, were so smashed.op during the war that only half, or less than half, are in working order again, and because the French lingère who makes and embroiders these, dainty garmenta with such infinite skill has now to be paid five or six times what she was accustomed to earning before the war. There is also the serious question of the laundry
The shades preferred for coloured lingerie are ahrimp pink, apricot, butter cup and pale mauve. Ninon, triple vaile, silk crepe, or Jap, silk make up well in colours.
The combinaison-jupon is more popular than ever, and very few Frenchwomen rear anything else but this handy combination of petticoat and camisole.
Some of the latest slippers are of the bettikin type, and just cover the ankle; these are cut in one piece and have no seam except the join up the back. The nrost beautiful of all models are in silver or gold gause they are decorated with pray of flowers embroidered or paint ed on, and they have a quilted silk lining, the colour of which matches that of the rest or tes gown; the heels, also, are.
