A totally unexpected development has prisen in connection with the demands made by local bread bakers, pastry cooks,

and brend dislivery coolies for more

money and shorter hours, On Monday night, after the baking was completed, for yesterday morning's supply, the bread. bakers and delivery coolies employed by Cafe Wiseman and "the bakers employed by M. Y. San, biscuit manufacturers. went on strike. Consequently a consider. able amount of inconvenience has been cocasioned to those residents who depend upon the Cafe Wiseman and M. Y. San for their supplies.

ORIGIN OF THE DISPUTE. The origin of the dispute dates back to last September when the Hip Chup Labour Asociation, to which these parti- cular workers belong, sent out circulars to every employer demanding certain wage increases, and improvements in working hours, à good deal of corres pondence passed and finally the Associa tions demands were reduced to the follow. ing:
