LONDON'S NEW THEATRE.
NOVEL IDEAS TO BE
EMBODIED..
In November next year London will have snow theatre. Its name will be the Crown Theatre-s title which has been chosen because one side of the building will be on Crown-court, Carent-garden. Describing the theatre to a representative of The Daily Telegraph, Mr. Lawrence Cowen, the wall- known author and playwright, aid that it was immediately opposite Drury Lane Theatre. I have contracted, "mid Mr. Cowen, "for a theatre of moderate rize and unique design to be built by November lat next on this site, of which I have secured the freehold, fow and I anticipate that within a days of that date. Mr. Dennis Eadie, to whom I have granted a lease of the building for twenty-one years, will pro duce a
play within its walls." The architect of the theatre is Mr. Ernest Schaufelberg, a well-known exhibitor at the Royal Academy, and the architect of the Royal Opera House at The Hague and of various Government buildings. He has designed a structure in the Italian Renais sance style, carried out in coloured granite with metal facings. The colour scheme of the interior will be something quite nove!! in London houses of entertainment, and will

There will be several innovations in the business arrangements of the theatre. The price of the ticket will include cloak- room, programine, and all other charges. There will be no gallery in the new theatre, and as every seat will be book- able thera need be no queues. To proportion to its size the Crown. Theatre will have the most commodious stage of any theatre in London. There will be no) footlights. All the lighting will be done from a bridge of lights over the stage. There will be seating capacity to the value of £250 per night. Mr. Cowen, who was responsible during the war for the recruit ing film stories, Wake Up" na "It is for England," has stipulated that the builders are to employ as many ex-Service men sa possible.
