The fuck tion of this afternoon was a memorable occasion, and it was to me a great pleasure to be present. I have been connected with Freemasonry for very many years, and to me this is a proud refection, for I am con- vinced that the craft exercises a mont beneficial influence upon

the

nation. (Cheers.) I can only repeat now what I said in Grand Lodge. this afternoon, that I view with intense satisfaction the admission of my nephew into conspicuous office in Grand Lodge (Cheers.) I know of no man who can turn his experience to better account. (Hear, hear.) You know of the useful part which he took in the war; you know of the magnificent visit which he has paid to our grent Overseas Dominions; you know of the nemorable tour which he has but lately made to India; you know of the kindly interest he has taken is bettering the lot of our ex-soldiers; you know of the intense real he has displayed on behalf of our great hospitals; and you know of the keen pleasure he has displayed on behalf of our Boy Scouts. Cheers.) All these things are striking characteristics of our new Senior Grand Warden (Cheers.) Lanticipate that he will manifest tizlar interest in Freemasonry, and I trust that he will long continue to promote the welfare of our beneficent craft. (Loud cheers.).

ca-fond cheers on ring to reply, said: I am most grateful to the Grand Officers for the splendid way in which they have drunk my health. This is my first visit to the Grand Officers' Mess, but I hope it will not be the list. This afternoon I aaw a great number of distinguished Freemasons who have spent many years of their lives in promoting the advancement of the craft, and I cannot but help feeling that in being admitted on a footing of equality with them I am being treated with generous indulg ence. (A Voice: "You deserve it," and cheers. I can assure you that I am a very. keen Freemason, and I hope that my other public duties will not prevent me from be ing amongst you very, often. (Cheers.) This afternoon was the first time I had ever attended Grand Lodge, and I can tell you that it is an occasion which Inhal never forget. It brought home to me, with every vividness, what Freemasonry really is. It confirms what I have always felt that Freemasonry does untold good to the British Empire is particular and to man. kind in general. (Cheere.)

In addition to those named above, the company included the Rt. Wor. the District Grand Master of Hongkong and South China, the Hon. Mr. P. H. Holyoak.
