PARIS FASHION NOTES.
MODES FOR MEN.“
[FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT, IBANEL RAMBAT.]
Paris, Soptember 11th. Nothing is so fashionable in Paris as an English tailor. Whereever you look in the smart shopping district you see the word tailleur coupled with London or Eug. lish or else with an English phrase invariably misspelt. It is just as smart is Paris to have a tailor named John Brown as it is in English-speaking cities to have a dressmaker named Madame Marcelle. For women, an English tailor is looked upon as a luxury, for men, that is men who take a scrious interest in their appearance and mest Frenchmen come under this category-an English tailor is a necessity.
THE SEARCHLIGHT ON ZAM-BUK.
Scientific Analysis Reycals Unique Medicinal Virtues.
European and India doctors, surgeons, nurses and first-aid associations are constantly testing and praying for themselves the aupreme merit of Zam-Bak. No other preparation In so uniformly successful in the treatment of skin affection Writing from The Labora tories. Ilford, Essex, the notable chemist and scientist, Mr. Wentworth Licelles-Scott,
I hate chemically analysed and examined in other ways the unguent preparation known “ZAM-BUK," samples for analysis having been obtained both from the makers direct and by independent retail purchases.
Zam-Buk is bakamic ointment of pale green color and agreeable aromatic odour. Its constituents being exclusively of herbal origin, Zam-Buk contains one of the irritating moral draga and animal fats present in Tess carefully prepared ointments: honce it never exhibits the least tendency towards ranckiity even after long
keeping.
Although they go to English tailors or people who pretend to be such, and although the well-groomed Englishman is the sartorial idol they always have in mind, Frenchmen My tests prove that Zan-Buk is possessed rarely arrive at a point where they can be of a powerful antiseptic and bactericidal action uistaken for an Anglo-Saxon. They have, which promptly alleviaten cataneous disorders however, ovarel a type of their oweover its stringent and, balsamic con- to parasites and pathogenic organismus. which is interesting and attractive, a type stituenta render Zam-Bak na emollient of great that is neither as masculine as the English, healing power as flash as the Ameriam, nor as finicky as the French of a few years back that used my to delight the pencil of caricaturists.
The favourite line for some time past has been one that is drawn in at the waist. | Coats are shaped almost imperceptibly. so that the gores sbape in at this point, and the impression is accentuated by a habit of fastening the middle button in front There are generally three of these, but very often there is only one, and this is kept always fastenend so that a distinct waist line is given to the cat. Apart from this little eccentricity, there is nothing excessive in the way of turned-back cuffs, buttons or
apels. Grey is far more worn than a other colour, even in Winter, As well as plain dove greg "and blue grey materials, there is u check variety which ไวนิ just come to Paris and which is krown as the Prince of Wales' suiting because-an is appears--our smiling prince wore, cr is wearing, a suit made of similar fabric. This is a grey tweal, chocked- with fine grey and black stripes,
The crease down the front of the trousers | is, of course, de rígéur; so, also, are spats, glores and a'enne. During the war, walking- sticks went quite out of favour; only officers were allowed to carry them and, so many became so accustomed to the use of the sword and bayonet that they forgot that Society permitted them the use of other implements less dangerous and far more elegant. Now, however, the fashion is returning, and if a man wants to appear at all chic lie must dangle a cane after him wherever he goes. The note, for the moment, is one of extreme simplicity. No faney wonds no Lapey mounts al no fancy. extravagances of cut and design-caus and bamboo for the day time with ebony, perhaps, for grandes, ceremusies and for the evening. Toornament these simple woods, a knob in mother-of- pearl, ivory or polished deer horn' is all that is necessary. For the more decorativa ebony cane, the finish may be in crystal, tortoise-shell," jasper or chrysoprase," the latter..recalling Balane's famous face in the chrysoprase knob of which was emprisonéd a lock of fair hair and anginscription round the base: "Guess whose ? A top in silver or gold is also permitted, likewise one made of a network of narrow stripa of leather or suede plaited together. If, however, you have a fancy for a curred lundle, the only possible decoration fashion will permit you is that of ivory, gold or deer barn; silver and other metals are taboo. Canes are not, only carried in the day-time in Paris, but in the evening as well, and even at weddings by the bridegroom as well as by his guests: On such an occasion, the decoration gener. ally takes the form of a plain kaob in gold wil the initials of the couple engraved upon it.
One murely sees top-hits except in the ultra-fashionable and diplomatic parts of Paria. Everywhere else, soft felt hats are to by seen, with a majority of straw hats. during the Summer. The fatter are not only worn in the day-time, but they are worn exclusively in the evening by the vast Dumber of men whose evening-dress kit. does not include an opera-bat.
Evening dress-that is as far as the dinner-jacket is concerned--follows the line of the ordinary day sac coat and inclines in towards the waist, where it is accentuated by the button that keeps it in place. Ia all other respects, tradition steps in and forbids all attempt at variation, except in the matter of the soft evening shirt and col- lar. This, in fine tucked or plain linen or silk, is quite permissable, and the most ardent dandies may be seen wearing a shirt und | turned-down collar that are as devoid of all trace of starch as any bandkerchief. Not long ago the Intransigenat, a leading evening pa per, started a controversy as to whether scft collara could be considered good dressing" and is keeping with the rules of good form. Amongst the many authorities" who gave their opinion on the subject was Audro de Fouquires, the modern Beau Brummel of France, who declared without hesitation that soft collars could be worn but only in the morning but in the evening when accompanied by a soft slur. Since then the rogue for soft shirts has increased" a hundredfold

"I have no hesitation in certifying the entire purity of Zam-Buk, which, in my opinion, is well adaptal for the treatment of Auperficial injuries and prevalent skiu viselgr«,”
