PARIS, August 28th. The scene in the evening at the casino at Denville is wirely calculated to make the righteous throw up their hands in horror, and to make those who predict that a wholesale revolution is in store for the world advanes the date of its arrival somewhat-if such people ever venture into such a place. If one stopped to think of the amount being spent in food and wines in the vast dining-room, of the amount. represented by the toilettes and jewels of the women, not to mention the amount being squandered at the Bacarat tables, where thousand-frund notes are thrown ou in bundles, one's brain would reel.

Judging by what one sees here, one wold any that chinchilla and ermine are to be the tiro fashionable furs for this Winter, notwithstanding the fact that those are the two most expensive furs to he bought and can surely not come within the reach of any but millionaires. At Deauville one acquires this impression, because nearly every second woman is wearing, with stadiel negligence, 'n coat of either chin- chilla er ermine, the price of which would lace consituted a priccely ransom in bygone Jays. The new shape seems to be that of the cage fishel with a straight collar, rather wide and gathered in at the neck Coats are quite long and most of them have no leaves. These in chinchilla are lied with a rich brocade or figured muteriak, whist those in ermine are invariably with thick plain black satin. There are other coats, in ather furs," of course, but they are in such a winority that one bardly notires them, still less remembers them. Even in the day. time, ermine makes it appearance at

They were all made either in the new cape form or in the other variation have just described. Some of them had a thick roll round the top for a collar, whilst others had a kind of shawl cpe which was gathered and pucked under, so that the effect was more like that of a

rume.

The rain, as it most places in Europe this summer, has been far too frequent a visitor at Deauville, and it has not haul the good manners to keep away even ou race-day. One of the results of its visit last Sunday was to bring forth a crop of the most delightful leather coats and jackets it is possible to imagine. These are so smart that one can easily imagine a woman with one of them in her possession praying for rain just so that she can come out and parada in it.
