OUR PRINCES.
WHAT ARE THEIR FAVOURITE SPORTS
That the Duke of York took part in a lawn tennis tournament the other day in cause of charity calls attention to the proficiency shown by the sons of the King and Queen in almost every branch of outdoor sport.
The Prince of Wales is on excellent rider to hounds (it may be added that Princess Mary, Viscountess Lascelles, is almost us good). This, His Royal Highness confesses, is his favourite pastime, and when he re turus home he hopes to get together a really decent stud of hunters. Next in favour with His Royal Highness is polo, although it is to be doubted if he is as good at this as Prince Henry, who, according to some indges, may become an "All England" player as he gains greator experiance. Neither is Prince Henry far behind his brother as a cross-country rider. He was The first of the Princes to achiera success in a point-to-point race, beating the Prince of Wales in the spring of last year by two lengths.
The Duke of York, although be boil hunts and plays polo, frankly ad mits the superiority of the Prince of Wales and Prince Heury in these. but when it comes to lawn tennis his superiority over the other two in most pronounced. He is a left-handed player, with a serve that takes a deal of playing, and he is extremly active on the courts. Lawn tennis has for many years past been. one of the King's favourite forms of exer- cise, and he and the Duke often play before breakfast on the privite courts at Bucking- bam Palace,
Although all the Princes play golf this cannot be described as a favourite with them, and the Prince of Wales has been beard to declare that he has never had anfficient time to devote to the really scien
The fact tific study of this game. that the Prince of Wales is to be and the new Captain of the Royal Ancient Club will doubtless result in bis Caroting more time to the game between now and the September meeting at St. Andrews. The Princes learnt golf some years ago, when recovering from an attack of measles, their instructor being Mr. H. P. Hansell, who was for many years their tutor."
While all the Princes shoot well with both gun and sporting rifle, none of them can approach His Majesty in skill. The King still maintains his place among the first half dozen slots in Europe, and over the grouse moors around Balmoral last season he demonstrated his superiority over all his sons in no unmistakable fashion,

"I have the consent," she answered, producing a piece of paper. Here it is.
The registrar examined the paper and was satisfied. "And who is it that you' wish to marry?" he asked
"Lord Louis Mountbatten," was the quiet reply.
"Who?" said the astonished official.
His visitor repeated the name, and then, and not until then, he realised that he had before bim Miss Edwina Ashley, daughter of Colonel Wilfred Aabley, M.P., grand-daugh ter of the late Sir Eruest Cassel, and said to be one of the wealthiest : heiresses in England.
Miss Ashley gave all the required parti. culars in a clear, concise, and businesslike fashion. Not once was it necessary for ber to refer to written notes to refresh her memory, and she gave without hesita tion the five names of her fiance-Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas. After making the affidavit she added her sign- ature, paid the £2 for the licence, and took it away.
