WIFE'S NEW STATUS.

MARRIAGE SERVICE REFORM.

New Youx, April 6th.

Aniericau brides in the Protestant Episcopal Church, which corresponds to the Anglican communion in England, will not be requins to prumise either to serve or to obey their husbands it a recommenda tion adopted by the Commission for the Revision of the Prayer-book is confirmed by the General Convention of the Church next autamn.

As a whole the proposed changes reflect the new status of women. Th, while man IN rio longer regarded as his wife's love and diaster, "on the other land, the Commission

proposes to absolve the bridegroom from his promise to endor his wife with all his worldly goods Both parties, it is suggested, should be asked the same question, promising to love, honour, and comfort each other and to forsake all others, so long as either shall

live.

The Commission further proposes to abolist the tereny of giving in marriage, a hymn or authem being inserted at the point where the clergyman nów Bays. Who giveth this woman? Another. major change saggested is the insertion of a prayer for a blessing on the ring, which reidd,Bless, O Lord, this ring, that she who wears it may abide in Thy peace and continue in Thy favour unto her life's end".

The question of the passages stating the objects of the institution of matrimony, which were deleted from the form of service ased on the occasion of Princess Mary's wedding, were not placed before the Com- mission. They Lave already been removed from the Prayer-hook used in the American Episcopal Church.
