Lady Scott is the widow of Captain Falcon Scott, R.N., the gallant leader of the Antartie expedition which mit which disaster in 1912. She received the rank of a K.C.B.'s widow by Hoyal Warrant "recognition of her husband's work. Lady Scott, who is a daughter of the late Canon. Bruce, has done much succreful work as a scalptor, and has designed several well known public monu- mcots. One of her principal works is the statue of her husband in Water-place. Among her Bitters have been Asquith, Colonel Lawrence, and the late American Ambassador. For eleven months during the war, Lady Scott made mai- tions" in big factory, and her industry and influence stimulated the output by the girls of her sretion: With regard to her sculptural talent, this is partly trace abls to her descent. CAPTAIN SCOTT LAST W158.
The rngagement of Lady Scott recalls the poignant message in which Captain Scott left his wife and child to the care of his feliay-countrymen. The boy. Peter Scott, is now quite a sturdy Ittle fellow.
In the tent where Capt. Scott waited right days for death with Dr. Wilson and Lisut. Bowers, the search party found the leader's diary, in which Capt. Scott, on March 5th, 1012, after detailing the causes of diaster, wrote:-
"Had we fired, I should have had a tale to tell of the hardihood, endurance, and
of my companions which courage would have stirred the heart of every Englishman.
These rough notes and our dend bodies must tell the tale; but surely a great, rich country like ours will go that tho who are dependent upon us are properly provided for."
Lady Scout received a Civil Service amuity of 100, and annuities were grant- ed other relatives of victims of the ex- peilition.

When a false report came through that Mafeking had been relieved, the Here- ford publican, with whom he had a wager of £5, brought a hairdresser to him and told him he ébuld have bis hair cut; but' Mr. Wilkins refused until the news was conarmed. The report proved to be un- true.
