THE DUMB GIRL OF PORTIOI.".

At the World Theatre, this afternoon and for three successive days at 3.15 p.m. and 9.15 p.m. the Universal Film Cor poration presents "a special Jewel pro- The Dumb Girl of Portici," duction," in eight parts, starring the famous. Russian dancer, Mile. Paylowa.

The story opens with Fonella, (Me Pavlowa), the dumb giri of Portici, a little community Dear Naples, Shar falls in love with Alphonso, a philander ing aristocrat, who repents of his designs upon her and marries the Princess vira. Misunderstanding the situation, Alphonso's "father, the Duke, causes Fonella to be thrown into prison. She is. befriended by the Princess Elvira, who is now aware of a liaison between her Busband and fisher-girl. Masiniello Fonella's brother, leads a revolt against the Duke, whose government is over- thrown and his court scattered. Pietro, a jealous rival of Masatiello, puts into the ter's wine powder which sends the hero mad and renders him incapable of controlling the mob. Fonella aida Alphonso and the Princess to escape to the frontier, whence Alphonso returns with an army. A confrontation occurs between Masaniello and Alphonso, but Fozella throws herself between them and is killed by her brother's poignard. Seeing what he has done he turns the- blade upon himself.

The theme of this picture is a tragid one and is based on the eternal struggle between the oppressed poor and their grinding over lards. Some of the sub- titles with their protests against high prices and taxation, might have been faken from the proceedings of any recent. labour Conferences.

Mlic. Parlown is pronounced by the world's leading critica" the most wonder. ful emotional actress of the decade in this picture which the most lavishal production "ever filmed in the history of the moving picture.
