THE NAUGHTY 'CHILD. PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT.
Dr. A. Abelson (London) in a paper- before the Psychology Section of the British Association at Edinburgh, last month, pni forward reñsons for the pay. chologien treatment of the delinquent child. He said there was an accumulat "ing" amount of reliable evidence that wrong doing was largely bound up with morbid conditions of health. The method of dealing with the delinquent child, though much improved, was far from satisfactory. Was it really necessary, hu asked to degrade a child frat in order La raʼorny him i Many a child fuked upon his incarceratiop in an institution as a malignant stain on his soul which could never be effaced and would go down with him to the grave. Some of these children had high ideals, but there was always to be found in such cases a severe mental conflict which could only be satisfactorily removed by psycholo gical analysis. There was frequently associated endocrinal disturbance, and much could be done in some cases by

with psychological treatment. It was time we seriously realised that we were dealing in the large majority of cases with a patho logical condition which, like all other pathological conditions, required ade- quate treatment.

CONGTEST OF MEXICO. Mme. Tetrazzini was re-engaged after her first few weeks at a salary of £3,500 a month for her second year, which rose to £4,500 a month for her third, and £8,500 for har fourth. In case of a man's signature, even if he is very drunk," Mr. Gurrin, the handwriting expert, told a Daily Mail heporter, he may be able to get that right. But when it comes to writing everal lines of matter, then any consider- able degree of drunkenness is bound to affect the writing.
заде
The muscular control exercised by a person writing his signature far exceeds the muscular control which the person exerts in his ordinary writing, Consequently there will be distinét signs of absence of control in a letter of any length in the handwriting of a drunken man."
Most of the tests of sobriety are direct ed, to discovering the amount of control which, the subject retains over his mus cular and nervous system.
He may ko required to repeat such phrace as Truly rural," British Con stitution." "The Leith police dismisseth us." He may be required to walk along a line chalked on the floor or (and this is one of the crucial testa) to walk along gazing meanwhile at the ceiling bor liis head.

Mme. Tetrazzini quotes with obvious pleasars the following headliness from an American newspaper 2---
