LEAGUE OF FELLOWSHIP. APPEAL FOR LARGE MEMBER." SHIP.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2011

Members of the League of Fellowship and Service met at the Helena May Institute, last evening, to consider the draft rules drawn up by the provisional committee appointed last week. The Hon. Mr.. H.E. Pollock presided and the members already enrolled wers "present in force.

"

The objects of the League were ap proved as to promote good fellowship and peace between all nations" and "to promote good fellowship and social reform in the Colony of Hongkove."

Mr. Charles Gerken, and Mr. R. H Kotewall were elected joint hon, secre- taries.

**

There was a long discussion on the rule as to the size of the committee.

The CHAIRMAN pressed for a committee of unlimited size, but the meeting carried an amendment limiting the committee to 15 with power to add as many as ter and adding the proviso that special com-*| mittees might be appointed to deal with This was to meet particular matters.

a difficulty suggested by the Chairman that people did not like being on sub- committees.

After the formal business had been transacted, the Chairman said it had been suggested that Hongkong was such an insignificant place that it would be absurd for it to send a message of sym! pathy and greeting to the Washington Conference; in other words, that Hong kong was not worthy of the honour of sending such a message. Mr. Pollock reminded any who seriously held that opinion, that not many years ago Hong kong, was found to be the first shipping port in the whole world and since the war ranked with the first five shipping ports of the world. It was also, the headquarters of the most influential bank in the East and the biggest marine The insurance company in the world. Pacific Problem was the first to come up for consideration at Washington "and Hongkong was certainly the first ship

port in the Pacific. ping, dded Mr. Pollock, "that I am Bay suffering from an enlarged imagination, but I do not see what there is to prevent anybody in this Colony from subscribing We have to the objects of this League. the widest possible objects, no black balls and no exclusion; we welcome all. The more people who come in now,in the next few days-the, more weight there will be behind our message in support of the peaceful solution of Pacine prob berp We propose to telegraph on Armistica-Day to the Washington Con- ference.. I cannot imagine anybody being so inhuman or so wickedly indifferent s to any that the problems of the Pacific or of "disarmament do not concern them."

The meeting then "concladed.
