July 7th Several remarkable figures are brought out in the new Census returns for Scat- land.

The most important is that the population is now 4,892.157, an increase as compared with 1011 of 191,283, or 2,5 per cant. This is exceedingly low. The Circuit Court of Justiciary at Jedburgh was occupied during most of last week in the trial of a case of culpable homicide.
