END OF THE DRAMA. WOMAN'S CLAIM TO THE JEWELLERY MAINTAINED.

The Extradition Drama, The Banker of Canton," concluded with an epilogue by the Magistrate, yesterday morning, so that the piece has been severely "cut" by the omission of discussion whether Canton has power to extradite, or whether the North" overrules, the South. Instead of a bouquet at the con- clusion of her performance, the lending lady" on stepping proudly from the dick, received back the collection of watches, pendants, rings and bangles, over which the case has been fought, and to which both she and the banker have luid claim.

Addressing Mr. Hazlerigg (the Assist- ant Crown Solicitor) and Mr. G..K. Hall Brutton, (for the defence), the Magis trate read his finding as follows:-
"In this case I am asked by the Crown to commit the female fugitive on the ground that, in the words of section 10 of Ordinance No. 7 of 1880, such evidence has been produced as would justify her committal for trial as the Criminal Sessions if the crime of which she is eccused had been committed in the Colony, Now, under section 70 of the Magistrate's Ordinance (which must be read with section 10 of the Extra. dition Ordinance), before committing, the Magistrate must satisfy himself, either that the evidence as a whole is sufficient to put the accused upon his or her trial, or that it raises a strong or probable presumption of guilt. the first of these alternatives, it was laid down in the finding of the Full Court in the case of Hung Shiu Lun (Hougkung Law Heports, vol. x., at page 119) has the Magistrate should convict, I do not so sinud. As regards the second alternative, the evidence has not, in my opinion, raised any strong or probable presumption of the fugitive's guilt, She mast, therefore, bo discharged."
