A

A new record in Trans Pacific service over the Southern route was established who the now Pacific "Mail steamer Golden State which left Hongkong April 25th ent-fed San Francisco bay thirteen days. even hours and forty-eight minutes after leaving Yokohama, exclusive of tim spent at Honolulu. Her average spend during the return run was 16.82 knots per hour. The ship's officers stated that the consumption of oil was under that generally required for such speed: fastest run in proportion to

the distance between ports was made from Yokohama to Honolulu, the total time being eight days, nine hours пай thirty-seven minutes, with an average speed of 17.7 knots. Her steaming time from Hono- lulu wan four days and twenty-two hours, a record equalled only by that of the Great Northern which completed the yoy age in eighteen hours under the time of the Gulden State.

GERMAN BOATS NOT WANTED IN JAPAN

Of the our former Germno vessels allotted to Japan, the Cup Finisterre (whose name has since been changed to the Taiyo Muri) is now being operated on the North American run by the Toyo Kisen Kaisha and the list on the Europeaa run by the Nippon Yusen Kai- sha, but two other steamers, the Fielfeldt, 4.460 tons, and the Normania, 3.999 tone, remain undisposed of, says Japan con- temporary.
