PARIS, April 11th. Now that high collars have firmly estab lished themselves," desigders are busy. planning a hundred and one little modi fications of this particular part of one's areas. Guided, perhaps, by the law of average, they say that since collars have been something more than low in the past thing more than high, and they cut their cloth accordingly. It is not sufficient for an up-to-date collar to reach to the wearer's chin; it must now evelop this part of her face with a frill or ruffle, or else mount up on each side so as to caress her ers,

Tra

One of this latter type I saw was in white pique, fastening on the, side with a row of small jet brads What might bo termed an eclectic collar was in velvet with a narrow band of sealskin top and bottom, and a frill of ivory mousseline de sote round the top

edge A high

pleated taffetas collar was caught in at the bottom with a narrow "velvet ribbon, Anishing in front with a bow and ends; and another was simply a deeps band of crushed black satin, tied in a bow and ends at the side and finished at the top with a row of white muslin. All these models were extremely high...

For coats and tailor-mades there are high collars, too. These are stiff and adged or covered with fur, or else they are souple and envelop, the neck, but at a distance; most of these button at the

ide.

Needless to say, the collar edged with fur is a popular feature these days. very often being introduced into the sleeves and hem sa voll For tailored jackets or contees this idea is very much in vogue, the collar in this case consisting of one wide or several narrow, stripe of fur. High collars with turned-over" flaps figure both on tailor-made jackets and blouses

Un afternoon or evening frocks, where high collars do not come into play, the other extreme is adopted, and low decol- kelages and a total absence of sleeves result. Most dressmakers seem to follow a pattern which recommends a perfectly simple, though not quite tight-fitting, hodice cut with V

T or a round decolletage and no, sleeves, and & full or a draped. skirt. A popular actress is wearing with this type of bodice a skirt made out of a beautiful Indian abawl. Another chooses a very full skirt showing a scalloped hem edged with picot ribbon with this the wears a mantle whose fullness is gathered into a band that continues down the front to form slits for the arms. As the material chosen for this frock in pink. silk shot-taffetaa. the effect is most strik- ing.

The same actress wears another most beautiful gown, thowing a simple sleeve- less bodice, and a plain straight skirt of gold tissue; the skirt is rather short, and over it are draped three panels of tulle encrusted with gold motifs; these touch the wearer's shoes, and two extra long panels of the same material, falling at the back, form the train.

The idea of pasela is a very prevalent one, and the sight of panels of one material falling below the hem of an underskirt of another is not such a novel sight as it was a little while ago. Satin with panels of Georgette ninon de cole. lace, or silver or gold tissue treated this way is very effective. Looped panels, are also acen a great deal, whilst the popular idea of a train is a panel that trails behind like a wisp of an, interrogation mark.

The passion for capes is a growing one that has spread to the decoration of even ing frocks and négligés. Delicate little capes of ninon de soin of Georgette, now. Boat behind sometimes their airiness is intensified by the addition of bands of swansdown. This penchant for "y away effects is eremplified by one de signer, who adds one immense angel alerve in embroidered tulle to a gown of "em- broidered velvet, and, on the other side, to make up for the absence of sleeves, a panel of the same embroidered tulle that hangs down below the hem of the velvet. Even hats are subject to this the result that wide streamora, knotted on craze, with the side and bringing down over tho shoulder, ars more than fashionable at the present.moment."

...

The craze also for embroidery has spread as far as bate, and it is now usual for the embroidery en one's frack or coat to match that on one's hat. As a matter of fact, hats match one's dress, not so much by being of the same material and colour as by matching the lining or trimming.. Linings are so magnificent nowadays that it is by no means a hardship to repeat' them on one's hat, the same applying. to the trimmings of embroiderice, braid and fur with which modern dress is embellish- ed. For this reason the more neutral, tints are in vogue, as they serve as a better foil for the brilliant linings and embroideries that will be added to them. Grey, fawn, navy and burnt orange are, therefore, more worn than other colours. Black or white are rarely imployed except allied to the other that is to say, when black is the foundation colour white ik used as the trimming, and vice verand

Checks are still much worn, and the Souvenir of the Scottish troops which the French first showed by kilting or pleat- ing all their skirts and capes, they are now showing by trimming their hats with tartan ribbon and introducing bands and scraps of tartan into their coats and. frocks. The class unconsciously favour
