THE WOMAN AND OTHER
QUESTIONS
...
From The Times of the and all:- At the quarterly meeting of the United Grand Lodge of Freemasons last evening, Lord Ampthill, the Pro-Grand Master, presiding, the Duke of Connaught was unanimously re-elected Grand Master.
One matter which came up for discus- sion was the woman
question. It is well-known in Masonic circles that there are now established severdi Lodges, re- garded by the Grand Lodge of England as chundestine, where women, as well as men, are initiated and permitted to be come members. A petition was received bearing four signatures, two of women, on behalf of the Honourable Fraternity of "Antient "Masonry asking for recog- nition. In this instance, the Grand Se. Bretary wrote that it was impossible to recommend to the Grind Lodge the pray, er of the petition; and, that it would continue to exercise its disciplinary powers towards any member working under the English jurisdiction who vio lated bis obligation by being prescut ut, or assisting in, assemblies professing 40 be Masonic which were attended by
-women.
The action of the Grand Lodge officers was approved after an amendment to refer the report back bad received only two supporters.
A question affecting vitally the land- marks of Freemasonry was referred to: A. letter had been received from the Grand Orient of the Netherlands asking. that the Grand Lodge of England might be represented at an International Con- greas of Freemasons of lodges of all coun tries to be held at Geneva.. A reply was.

LIFE-JUICE IN THE CRUET. VITAL SUBSTANCES IN LIQUID FORM.
Life cells in bottled form for daily con- sumption will have a regular place on dining tables, with the salt, pepper, and other condiments, as soon ïis chemists are able to devise a way of battling vitamine substances, which have just been detect- ed and isolated by Dr. H. B. Cox, the inventor of the dry battery and many other contrivances. Dr. Cox announced in a lecture on March 30th, writes the Daily Express New York correspondent, that he had isolated the vitamic cells from yeast, and then proceeded to ex- riment with vegetables and fruits, frbin which he likewise isolated-the vita mines.

Under present conditions of cooking": vegetables, says Dr. Cox, the greater part of the vitamines is thrown away with the water drained from the vegetables. He adds:-" The problem is how to gat the living vegetable and fruit properties to the table. If we can extract the vita mines from de prodigious quantities' in fruits and vegetables wasted yearly we I should solve the problem.
