DINE IN JAPAN: LUNCH IN CHINA
POSSIBILITY OF NON-STOP FLIGHT. Major Winder, of the lamous Vickers Firm, at Balow, England, is, in Japan to demonstrate the possibility of a non stop flight from China to Japan. He is perfectly confident that dying between Japan and China, say between Tokyo and Peking, can be done with as much ease and comfort as the daily journeys by air between London and Parts and between other points, which have now become so frequent the West that they have ceased to attract attention.
Major Winder is of opinion that a good commercial air service between Japan and China can be maintained. Mails, important packages and passengers can be transported from the one country to the other in about 18 hours. Vessels, accommodating from 19. to 15 persuna, in Major Winder's opinion, are perfectly within the realm of practical possibilities. Thus it will be possible to leave Tokyo, after dinner, and be in Peking for lunch. The saving that this will mean in time, and in money, is incalculable. It is for the purpose of demonstrating and prov ing that such a service can be inaugu rated, maintained, and conducted on sound, profitable, commercial lines, that Major Winder is in Japan. Whether he will give the necessary practical tests de- pends largely on the interest and enthu Biasm that the Japanese people show in the science of aeronautics.
PURELY COMMERCIAL.
Major, Winder is not in Japan in any altruistice sense, but purely from a com- mercial point of view. In proving the efficiency of the Vickers machines and planes, he, naturally, is acting as the precursor of business along these lines. A trial journey from Peking to Tokyo, without any stop en route, will cost some- where in the neighbourhood of Y,200,000. The plane and accessories will have to be shipped to Peking and in this way considerable expense will have to be in- curred. I there are guarantees forth- coming that Japanese firms will under- take to manufacture or purchase planes of the Vickers type, then the firm of Vickers, Ltd. will be prepared to bear all expenses in giving a positive demon. stration of the possibilties of establishing. a regular passenger and commercial aerial service between Japan and the Continent of Asia.
DEPENDS ON JAPANESE..
Sir Arthur Vickers Vimy is at present in China. It was hoped that he would be able to take part in the first non-stop China-Japan fight the firm of Vickers expect to stage. He has, however, dallen ill and may have to return to England- Japan Times and Mail.'
THE SUMMER RESORTS OF
HWANGTUNG,
Yesterday's Canton Times contained the following leading article:-
With the hot season coming on many people are turning their thoughts toward the problem of finding a suitable place to spend the summer. Japan still retains its attraction for foreigners, while some of the popular resorts in the north are be- coming fashionable. But there are many people who cannot afford...expensive vacation trips, or are too busy to leave their work for any length of time. They, also, would like to have some place near at hand where they can get away from the heat of the city and recuperate under pleasant conditions.

that place. Tng Wu on the West River is another quiet spot that has attractions for those who desire solitude and rest. Places along the Bamboo River and ap the North River are ideal for camping spots. One does not need to go outside of the province to get the scenery he most delights in. Off from the coast there are numerous islands where perach can spend the summer with a congenial party of friends. Bathing, boating and fishing can be enjoyed at very little expense..

The Government should give some attention to Kwangtung's attractive spots. Most of the places that would be chosen for summer resorts could be in- proved by roads and pleasant parks. The natural wealth of Kwangtung is not all under the ground. The trees and the mountains, the rivers and tho plain, cau be beautiful at very little cost to the Government...
