VINDICTIVE BEQUEST IN

HUSBAND'S WILL.. There is na dubiety as to the nature of a bequest made in the will proved of a St. Leonards testator, who died in November last. The testator wrote:-"I give to my wife the sum of one shilling to enable her to buy rope." The angry testator, however, was not so original as he intended to be, for a similar will was proved about 14 years ago. ln this case, a man, living at Button Coldfield, near Birmingham, left to his son 3d., with which to purchase a hempen cord or halt er for the use of his (son's) dear wife, which I trust she may make use of with- out delay."

Probably the height of meanness was attained by a man who left to his wife the sum of one farthing, with the direc tion that the coin should be sent to her by post in an unstamped envelope. This involved a charge to her of. 8d. on de livery, being the charge for sending coin in an unregistered envelope and a fur ther d. for unpaid postage. He justified his action by saying that she had spent old pig" and other names.
