FREEMASONRY IN ENGLAND SEVERAL HUNDRED NEW LODGES,
Preemasonry is making great strides in England, says contributor in the Loa- Fdon Daily Lail. Several hundred new lodges have been formed during the pust few years, and the war was responsiblo Tho for many recruits to the craft. governing body is the Grand Lodge of England, of which the Duke of Con naught is the Most Worshipful Grand Master. a position which was also held by the late King Edward VII. The pre- is not a Freemason, but the sent King Prince of Walce was initiated into the araft shortly before his recent tour.
of
So much has Freemasonry increased that a scheme has been proposed by the Grand Master for raining 22 MA £1,000,000 as a mememorial to Freemasons who fell in the war and to provide ade quate offices and accommodations for the Grand Lodge English Freemasonry is entirely unpolitical and unsectarian.
давите
It is a rule of Freemasonry that in lodge po book of reference is allowed. Everybody who takes his share in the fceremonies and ritual must know his part by heart and be word perfect in it. Thus, if a man in evening dress is observed hurrying along the street, if he has # fixed, far-away look about him and is muttering to himself, one may that he is an officer of his lodge rebears- ing bis
part, As a min progresses in Masonry he has more and more to learn. Adequately to fulfill the duties of master- ship of a lodge involves committing to memory nearly as much as the chief actor i in a three-act play might have to learn.
No woman can become a Freemason. An unauthorized order has been started among women in England' who hold lodges and profess to be in possession of the secret of the craft.
“HONOURABLES" IN INDIA. NEW TITLE REGULATIONS TO BE ADOPTED.
Hitherto all members of the Indian Legislatures, Imperial and provincial, have been entitled to the prefix of Hon. ourable during their period of office; but this will no longer be the case.
It will be retained by members of the Executive Councils, central and provin dal by High Court and Chief Court Judges, and by Residents of the First Class. The Governor-General has notified that it will also be applied to Ministers in the dyarchal provinces, to the Presid ents of all the Legislatures, and also to members of the new Upper Chamber-the Council of State.
The Montagu-Chelmsford Heport held that, in view of the great.increase result- ing from the reforms in the number of legislators throughout the-country, it was undesirable that they should continue to enjoy the designation of "Honourable," but, that provincial legislators should be entitled to affix the letters M.L.C. to their bames, and members of the Central Af sembly the letters M.LA.
The authors of th Report desired that the small central Second Chamber-the Council of State" should develop some- thing of the experience and dignity of a body of Elder Statesmen," and recom- mended that the designation "Honour- able” should be enjoyed by its members,

NOVEL RUSE FOR CAUSING DELAY.
Amusing scenes were witnessed on the arrival at Mattice, Ontario, of the Ame- ricam naval officers who undertook a hal- loon expedition and wore for a time lost in the wilds of Canada. In the presence of American journalists and cinema operators Lieuts. Farrell and Hinton came, ta blows and the incident has been faithfully recorded to be reproduced on the screen. The party's arrival was preceded by the return of several dog- sledge expeditions in charge of newspaper correspondents. The first news-gatherer to get away from the balloonists Bity

THE NEW WORLD. WHY AN OVERDRAFT, COULD NOT
BE REDUCED.
This was sent to a banker in explanas tion of why the writer could not reduce his overdraft.
"I have been held up, held down and bagged, walked on, sat upon, flattened out, and squeezed. First by our iLcome tax, the super tax, the excess profita tax, wer loans, war bonds, war savings cor- tificates, the automobile tax, and by. overy society and organisation that the inventive mind of man has conceived to ̈ extract what I may or may not have: in my possession. Next by the Red Cross,
St. Dunstan's and Children's Homes, Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.CA., the Salvation Army, the Belgian Relief, the Austrian Belief, the Black Cross and the Double Cross, and every Hospital in the town and country. The Government has gov. erned my business so that I don't know who owns it. I am inspected, suspected,, examined, and re-oramined, informed, and commanded, so that I don't know who I am, whore I am, or why I am bere at All. All that I am aware of is that I' am supposed to be an inexhaustible source of money for every known need, desire, or hope of the human race; and because I will not sell all I have, and go out and beg, borrow, or steal money to give away, I am mussed, discussed, boycotted, talked to, talked about, lied to, lied about, held up, hang up, robbed, and ncar ruined, and the only reason why I am clinging to life now is to see what the hell happens next.
