INTERNATIONAL RUGBY TRIALS. SPARKLING INTER-CITY GAME,

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

EDINBURAR, December 8th. The Inter City, game in Glasgow. Was full of thrills. Edinburgh led, Glasgow drew level and went ahead, thens Edin burgh got in front and, only kept that position by a desperate struggle. The crowd was on edge right to the end.

Taking the game all over, the Edin burgh pack was the better one, and that despite the fact that G. W. Simpson; of Heriot's, was badly burt in the early stages. It was amazing that he persever- ed to the end of the game. Where the Edinburgh forwards were easily the 'ball For better was in the fight for the long-stretches gh end it came out re. gularly on their aide, and seldom has J. Hume played a better game - In the loose, too, they were as good as their opponents, though the Glasgow pack had many telling rushes, if they did not keep the ball as they ought to have done. As prominent as any was J. P. Thomson, the Watsonian, playing a dashiny game in the open and getting credit "for good work in the tight, though the penalty goal from which Glasgow drew level was from a free against him for picking up in the scrum":

The find of the match was J. Hume Generally assumed to have reached the veteran stage, and only getting his place because 0.3. Nimmo and J. A. E. Selby could not accept, the Royal High School player revelled in the game. There was nothing he would not tackle, and no rash too feroe for him to go down to, and always he was up in the helter-skelter bi a game that was never slow. RS. Renfrew, was clever, bat could maké no show against Hunerme

Neither stand-off came quite up to ex pectation, R. L. H. Donald least so. T. Sloan has played better football, and often he tried to do too much on his own account. He was the better of the twb, and kept his place. for the next trial; while Donald, a player with distinct pos sibilities, has found a berth in the three quarter line.

Taking it all over, the three-quarter play was disappointing. There was A deal of flashy work, especially from the Glasgow line, which led to nothing tang ible It was here that Edinburgh held the advantage, for J. W. S. McCrow, who was hitting it, ce nicely with Sloan, seldom handled without gaining ground. and it was to him more than to any one. else that Edraburgh got, the win. The try he scored himself was the cloverest thing of the afternoon I Tait left various impressions. His manner of scoring his try raised the hope that he was an internationalist in the making, bat later, when the game was running. against his side, his defence was uncer

emergencies. E. B. Mackay, on the other band, was a hero in defence, and while he did not find the game u kindly for him readiness to score when his partner had kicked ahead was a distinct point in his favour. As between Tait and Mackay, the verdict of the crowd would have been in favour of the Glasgow Academcal. E. McLaren came through his first trial with credit, and the plain. mafter-of-fact and easily circumvented work of W. C. Johnston and G. V. Stewart told against them.

SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP IN RUGBY, B

The Scottish Schools Championship is proving more interesting than was anti- cipated; what may be termed an outside team may prove victorious,George Watson's College. It is side that has shown ability and strength in every match played. They have only been scored against in Schools football by the strong Glasgow High School Ipt; and they have their 20-points victory over Merchisten to

Aberdeen Univ., 11 St. Andrew's Univ show their value. But they have a long
