CRIMINAL SESSIONS:

[BEFORE THE PUISNE JUDGE (HIS HONOUR. MR. JUSTICE JR. WOOD)},

ARMED ROBBERY.

Another story of a robbery by armed

ruffians in the West Point district was told at the Criminal Court, yesterday, when Heung Tsoi, Ip Yuk, To Hung, Chan Sing Chow, and Wong Tsoi were charged with robbery under arms at 213, Queen's. Road West, Hongkong. on November 1st. 1920, of jewellery and clothing to the value of $108. They pleaded not guilty.

The following jury was empanelled :--- Messrs. A. J. M. Rosser Wong Sih Hay.. A. S. Gomes da Silva, E. M. Xavier. G. M. Xavier. V.A. Mason, and John:

owner for the reason that railway freights from the

great industrial centres of the United States to the Atlantic coast are much less than the freights to the Pacific coast. According to the Japanese Press, it will mean that foreign shipping on the Pacific coast will be handicapped as against American shipping to the extent of ten shillings a ron, while on the Atlantic coast the difference would probably not exceed twa shillings. As Japan's shipping trade with Amerien ischiefly with the Pacific const the new law is regarded as a direct blow at her shipping.

Another feature of the law which makes | Stalker. it objectionable to

Chan Chun Hing, an ex-Chinese stude foreign shipping

Mrs Jack: These articles were all with Amerion, because of the American found subsequently at No. 5. THE U.S. MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT.

The United States having built up a great mercantile fleet is bound to do all to keep it as a national asset. Sumitor Joses, the godfather of the new Act. is reported to have recently declared that, in this, America must think of her own interests, and leave other untia, tries to do as they please, ·For some such attitude as this other interested countries must be prepared. The straggle for survival which would result from the full operation of the Act would be the concorn of Governments and not merely os-particular steamship companies...
