The French motor-car trade in passing though a crisis of the utmost gravity, and the Union of Manufacturers is now press ing the Government to prohibit the imports tion of foreign cara”,

The situation, is most serious, as the trade employs roughly 200,000 work people. The manufacturers say the crisis is due to the excessive number of American cars in France and the prohibitive price of petrol. Many manufacturers -- who have received deposits on cars ordered have been told by the prospective purchasers that they would rather sacrifice the deposits than carry on with the purchase.
