QUESTIONS AT YESTERDAY'S
SE COUNCIL
THE FORM OF FINANOTAL RETURNE
The Hon Mr. H. E. POLLOCK, KC, in mecordance with notice given, asked a series of questions to which the Govern ment replied..
Questions and the answers made to them by the COLONIAL SECRETARY BIO appended:
Q-In view of the fact that the Govern
ment have been able in 1999 to name Financial rury monthly, instead of at times with more than one month's Niceipts and payments up together, will they give the usual sofal receipts for January February and March, 1919, algo those of December, 1919 which have not been published, in order that some comparison can be e obtained with the 1000 figures i A-The figures are:-January, 1919 Reven $1,609,258,80; expenditure, #966,870.20.200
February, 1919:-Ravenue, #1,229,830.70; expenditure $733,871.83.
March, 1019: Revenue, $1,36,147-23; expenditure 81,966;103:59.
The figures for the three months were published together owing to the irregularity of the mail which brought the Crown Agents accounts for the three months within a very shors time of one another.
For December, 1819, the figures are:--- Haverre, $1,349,955.64 expenditure, $4,861,816.55.

RAILWAY COOUNTS.- Q-1f the Kowlom-Canton Railway (BIL sish Section) is in time to be linked up with the trunk lines of China and when such takes place, questions of rates and allowances are likely to be complicated ones based on both cost of construction, maintenance and run. sing costs, and whereas all the Rail- ways in China are and have been for koma, kümne" worked under a very ́èff" cient and standardised form of ac counts," will the Government “take immediate steps to place the Colony's Railway recounts on a similar basis so that our officials may be in a position to discuss questions of rates en a common basis 1
QAs the publication of the monthly cash account some three to four months later detracts considerably from its value, and in view of the fact A-The system of accounting employed that the Imperial Government is able does not, by far at the Government is to issue its Blatement within a month
