The following Report, signed by the Hon. Mr. E Irving as Director of Education was laid on the table at the last meeting of the Legislative Conneil:-

REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE, ' 2.-After deducting the "school" fees re ceived, the total mett expenditure on win- estion was $954.302 ($243,362-in 1919).
3.School and Technical Instituto ees amounting to $103,505 were collected ($100.200 in 1918). In addition $5,188 fees were remitted to free scholars ($4.253 in 1979).
4.The cost of the Government Schools is compared in Table I, with the average of preceding years.

CLASSIFICATION OF SCHOOLS. 5.--These are divided late:~-
(a) Schools exempted from liability, to registration and inspection under, the Edurating Ordinace of 1915.

39.-Fictoria British School. The methods of teaching are up to date and the work shows a great improvement in all Classes. The weak poins, is handwrit ing which in Classes 5 and 8 is very poor. With this exoption the work of the School is very satisfactory.
