HONGKONG C.C. TOURNAMENT.

A large crowd assembled to witness the final match of the open singles competi tion, yesterday, and had perforce to go away having watched one of the poorest exhibitions of this year's tournament, Townsend was expected to give Lo a good game, but this he failed to do, going under in a manner that greatly die "appointed his friends,

ANOTHER GAOL MURDERER CONVICTED.

The third of the four Chinese prisónais

who escaped from Victoria Gaol in the early hours of December 15th, 1919, and who in the course of their escape murdered Warder Speed and Assistant Warder Harnam Singh, was tried for hiw life at the Sensions which opened yester day.

The Hon. Mr. J. Ht. Kemp, o, Attorney-General, assisted by Mr. Loo Longinotto, Assistant Crown Solicitor, prosecuted and Mr. B. E. Belilios de fended the prisoners.

Mr. Kemp detailed facts exactly similar to those which we have made public in connection with the two previous convic tions, in January and in March, and stated, as he had done before, that he could not prove which of the prisoners who escaped had actually killed Warder Speed, dus contention was that it was a case of common design, that the four men planned to escape, carried out their plans, and in the commission of their plans had murdered Speed. All four were there- fore equally guilty of the murder. Two of the prisoners had already been execut ed.

After ovidence had been given Mr.
