The child was being carried on its mother's back when defendant snatched the cap and cut off the ornament with a pocket knife. A boy noticed the incident raised an alarm. Over 30 persons gave chase and arrested the lad who had the incriminating article and the knife in his poksession..
The youth said he stole to support a crippled father. That information was found to be correct and Mr. Hutchison said he did not wish to be too hard. on the boy. He sentenced him to forty- eight hours" detention and to be birched."
