The above facts are generally known, but it is not generally known that similar railway activity is taking place in Persis. Though from time to time statements inve appeared about the Nushki Seistan exten- sion the rail bead of which is now in the vicinity of Nasirabad, the fact that the British are building a line, from Bushire to Shiraz has entirely escaped notice. The line is now about fifty miles out of Bushire, and will, it is said, eventually pass through Kerman to join the. Nushki line. When that happens, two days by ben will take a railway traveller from India to Basra, where he will catch a train which will carry him all the way to France.

We understand that a survey has aready been made for a line from Bushire up the head of the Gulf to Mohammershi and Basta. If this line is constructed even the two days by sea will disappear. Perhaps by that time the Channel Tunnel will also be complete. In any case we are Dearer today than we ever have been to an overland railway route between India and Europe.
