SHIPPING NOTES.

THE HONGKONG DAILY PRESN

The Japanese steamship Tatring Haru, with a cargo of dress goods, was the first Japanese vessel to arrive in a. German Sho port since the end at the war. arrived at Hamburg at the end cf. January, from Kobe.

At Marseilles on January 28th 3. Shinko Mora while moored was struck by the Jere during hurricane, and sus- tained serious damage. The Java left on January 2nd for Saigon, reaching Port Said on January 26th. Wireless informa tion states:-Japanese steamer Karachi Maru, off Zafarina, high-pressure piston broken: returns to Suez to make good damage

The Argentine Mary, of Kobe, 5,500 tons gros, reported to have sailed from Baltimore for Gothenburg on October 31st last, and passed Cape Henry on November 1st, 1919, is considered by Lloyd's to be very much overdue..

In the House of Lordy on January 30th. their Lordships, by a majority, allowed the appeal of the owners of the Aera Meru, of Tokyo, from a judgment of the Court of Appeal. affirming judgment of Mr. Justice Hill. that a collision between the Malin and the Kaga Haru was occasioned by the default of the Kaga.

the Gull Light-vessel. The only question in the appeal was 'whether the owners of the Kaga Maru could be made responsible for the loss. They denied responsibility. unon the ground that the collision was solely caused by the fault of the pilot.
