The hearing was concluded at the Magis tracy, on Saturday, in the case in which three well-dressed and apparently respect- able Chinese youths and a woman were charged, on remand, with conspiring to defraud a young Chinese girl of jewellery to the value of over $1,100.

The defence was that the girl was in love with one of the male defendants and used to meet him by appointment. The jewellery was given, as a wedding-gift, and some of it was pawned to procure money for pleasure trips.
