The arrest of the Chines, students on charge of having tried to prevent the importation of Japanese good's has. caused great feeling among the people against the Police.

Eleven stadents

were arrested; three

of them are out on bail, and the re mainder have been handed over to the Tuchun for punishment. They wern arrested at the request of those big Com- panies whó den largely in Japanese goods, as it was alleged that the students had published leaflets asking the people not to deal with those Companies.

There was demonstration by over 1,000 students in front of the residence of the Superintendent of Police, who was in danger of being attacked, but the demonstration was dispersed by the Police in the nick of time.
