The advocates of nationalization whe now turning their attention to railways. At a recent railwaymen's conference a speaker claimed that railways should be bought out by the Government on the 101s Stock Exchange values. There was a subtle irony in the applause that greeted this statement, as the railwaymen who cheered seemed quite unconscious they would be very heavy losers under that this scheme. The railwaymen's union, like many others. bave invested their funds very largely in railway stocks, and any depreciation of their value would react on their own financial position.
