RATES OF PAY FOR MASTERS.

The "Daily "Chronicle learns officially that a new scale of minimum rates of pay for masters has been fixed by the Shipping Controller. The pay varies with the gross tonnage of the vessel and the length of the master's service and ranges from £49 a month after five years' service in the case of a 1,000-2,000 tous (gross) ship to a month after a similar length of service in the case of 12,000 tons (gross). A scale for masters of coast. ing cargo steamers varies from £9 to £12 a month.
