Admiral Sir David Beatty received, recently the honorary freedom of the city | of Liverpool, conferred in the presence of a crowded gathering in, the famous St. George's Hall, where all the ranks and interests of the port were represented. Many thousands of people. lined the streets to cheer the Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Fleet on his way to the ceremony, and the detachments of blue jackets and marines from his Majesty's ship Queen Elizabeth came in for u popu [lar welcome of scarcely less warmth.

There was a full attendance of the City Council at the special meeting at the St George's Hall Lady Beatty, carrying a bouquet of pink carnations, was accom panied to a seat, below the platform by the Countess Derby and the Lady Mayo ress (Mrs. Ritchie). Similarly, in a pro- cussion beaded by the regalia, Sir David Beatty was escorted to the platform by the Earl of Derby and the Lord Mayor (Lieut. Colonel Ritchie), Sir Edward Russell, and Sir Charles Petrie. The scroll conferring the freedom bore on it the Engs of the Allies, a picture of H.M.S.
