The laat in order of all this series of TO-NIGHT! relaxations of Government control, which we have been making daily and hourly in steady suecasion, and which we are SATURDAY, continuing to do with all wien haste, is the relaxation of the priority of control of manufacture. Sove in a few excop- tional cases, all priority classifications for the execution of contracts for Govern- ment departments have been abolished. Mr. Churchill said the inspection staff" of the Ministry of Munitions, in itself a marvellous organisation, built up dur- ing the war from persuns quite untrained and unacquainted with material of war, amounted to over 70,000 at the time of the armistice. "A really esznot men tion the inspection staff." he proceeded,

Government Departments, nothing about this work before the war. from the Colonies, and the Dominions, and containing from 40,000 to 50,000 and from public bodies, with a view to women, has not only carried out inspection of the anomous mass of finish placing them to the greatest advantage. Where neccssary, 1 au prepared, in con- ed munitions at a rate sufficient to onable nection with Government schemes to them to be placed continuously in the place covering orders for commodities hands of the troops, but that the off-which will clearly be required in con- siderable quantities, if private orders are not forthcoming. For instance, I have arranged with the Railway Executive Committee and with the Board of Trade to place orders if necessary for 1,000 locomotives and 20,000 or 40,000 wagons in the shops of the country, and these orders I am placing wit special regard to the interests of smoothness of transi- tion from war to peace industry.
Arrangements are
olen been
of our output and of the inspe tion
so great that the confidence of the troops in the excellence of their weapons was unshakeable. There was no army in the field which was more cer- tain, or which had more right to be our- tain, that their shells would burst pro perly and their gune would resist the strain put upon them, and that in every respect the material supplied was the most trustworthy and superfine which British workmanship could produce.
PIRING 19,000 TOND A DAY OF SHELLS.
As soon as the sound of "Cease fire" reached the precincts of Whitehall, the flow of materials into munition work was immediately stopped, so that it might be diverted to poco production
Our effort culminated in the discharge during ifteen successive days of more than 12,000 tons a day of shells from Bir Douglas Haig's artillery upon the reel- ing, quivering German front. Suddenly This whole great operation bad to be brought to a standstill. The torrent had to be dammed at once. Daring October the average production of filled shells was over 47,000 tons a week. That has now been completely terminated. The factories have been demobilis The small proportion of workers who remain there are engaged in cleaning and clearing up, and the whole of this vast process of pouring out our materiale, our steel, and our explosives, which was the main feature of munitions supply, has come to an end.
Billing
Every effort has been made by us to give the fullest possible notice; but I consider that everybody has been under notice to quit his war job, be he employer or be he workman, from November 11th, 1918. Every mat and every women and every employer who at the present time have work which is connected with wer- like
preparation should regard them selves in
which state of insecurity,
thay must endeavour to free theroselves from by every effort in their power, their alforts being
ing aided by the most strenuous and resolute efforts of the Government of the country. It is no good people going on from day to day. If they can eep any opportunity let them take it. We shall help; but they must help them selves in every way.
KEMOVAL OF RESTAUITIONS.
I am very glad to say that the arrange ments which have been made to turn the steel trade on to peace production appear to be working extremely well. "My ad- vices are that very large numbers of orders are being placed with the steel- makers throughout the country, and that there is no reason at the present time to apprehend any sudden shock or set- back in that industry.
The first easer-
tial to the reconstitution of peace in- dustry is to secure ample supplies of steel, and a set-back in that respect would have reacted indefinitely upon the whole process of revival. We have fixed home prices and export prices for stool and iron up to May 1st, IB19, and have provided for the gradual removal of the Government subsidies. By those men sures the steel and iron trade have been steadied, and have gained confidence, Orders are being booked for export, and, so far as home production is concerned the steal works are already fully oocu- pied. I think that that is a very satis- inctory step on our anxious and lengthy journey from war to peneR
All restrictions on the purchase and manufacture of machine tools were re moved almost “immediately after the armistice. The machine-tool trado is ro", ported to be doing well and to Jusvo. numerous orders for peace Work Con tractors in the possession of plant dad machinery owned by the Ministry of Munitions are at liberty to as it for civil work on notifying the love engerin tandent engineer of their intention to do 60. The only restriction is that the cum tractor must pay a reasonable hire for the use of the machinery in cose ha dona pot ultimately wish to purchase it. The great parobb trade, the key trade, of Jaschine tools has been liberated and is functioning freely.
for the Minis Local Government Bou made with the try to place large orders for articles re- quired in connection with the Govern mont's housing schemes, etch articles as steel orsements, locks and ironmongery, ranges, stoves, sinks, lavatory and sani tary equipment, fittings for gas and electric cooking and lighting, and many others with which I will not burden yoU. Contractors would be well advised to get into communication with the Ministry of Munitions should they desire to obtain orders of this nature.
It ought to be realised both by work- people and by contractory that in many instances where factories have been devoted solely to the manufacture of munitions, with highly specialised machines, the sooner work on munitions terminates the sooner can the factories be reorganised for industrial production of a permanent character. *Therefore, it is idle for us to suppose that we can bridge, the next three or four months without a certain degree of dislocation and of unemployment.
But though the difficulties which lie before us are very serious, they are not half so hard as those which we have already overcome by working in co- operation and in comradeship. I am certain that if we continue without sloth on the one hand, or precipitancy on the other, if we all make up our minds to pull together with the same loyalty and comradeship as we have shown during the war, in a very few months the great industries of our country will have re sumed their natural activity, and the transitional conditions
which
overhang the labour market will
away. There ought to
great activity following this transitional period,
should look forward everyone to the future in a spirit of hope and of confidenes, for by that process they will more or less stimulate the revival which they desire, and which is so essen- tial to our well-being.

Very few people escape, liver trouble in ono or another of its many forms. Most people.have beca bilious at one time or another, but few know how the trouble arises or how it may be avoided. Bilions nous in due to a disordered condition of the liver: In a state of health the liver *Booreica," or produces a certain quan tity of bile a bitter fluid necessary to the proper digestion of food.
