The CHAIRMAN said: Gentlemen, this meeting has been called to-day to carry into effect what I might describe as the winding-up of the present organisation of the War Charities in Hongkong. This meeting is somewhat similar to that held the other day at Government House which was called for the purpose of reviewing the work of the Queen Mary's Needlework Guild and transferring it from a footing to a peace footing. As you re- anember, the War Charities' Committee entered into boing at the end of the year 1915 when the Prince of Wales' Fund Lerminated. The total amount received From the public of Hongkong towards the Prince of Wales' Fund, from the outbreak of war till December 31st, 1913, 131,447, to which was added a sum of £10.000 by the Government of Hongkong, aking a sum-total of £41,447, the dollar equivalent of which was $447,047.88. The Hon. Mr. LANDALE said:-Before seconding, the resolution which has been proposed by His Excellenay, I wish briefly to refer to the work of the Committed for the past year. In the early part of the year, thanks, in no unali degres, to the energy and persuasive talents of Sir Paul Chater, large amonata were collected from the Banks, Public Companies and Firms in the Colony amounting to $201,100.
The St. George's Society contributed a sum of $198,342.21 of which the War Bond Drawing was responsible for $117,500; Street Collection, $23,831.83; Tombola, 898,802.00; and Theatre performances,

While all this was going on, another Chinese appeared on the acepe and at- tempted to throw some pepper into Mrs. Neeson's eyes.
