BUL. I have read the letter, under.
date the 16th instant, addressed to you by Mr. J. M. Alves, which appeared in your issue of the 17th instant, wherein Mr. Alves makes reference to An inter view which Mr. Clark, of Messrs. J. D. Humphreys & Son, the General Managers of the Company, had with him on the 7th instant, and alleges that that inter view took place with the intention of inducing him (Mr. Alves) to shelve the matter," and that the bait was held out that a place would be found for him on the Company's Board of Directors as Book as the Director, had an opportunity || of altering the Company's Articles by increasing the number of the Board which then stood at five, and wherein Mr. Aiver comments upon the fact that 1 omitted to mention this interview in the coUTHO of my speech at the meeting of the Shareholders on the 18th instant, and charges me in effect with having, deli. berately misled those of the Shareholders who were present, and who supported me At such meeting.
In setting forth his view of the inter- view above mentioned, Mr. Alves is prae- tically setting forth the same view which he expressed to the Directors at the Board] meeting wherent he (Mr. Alves) was pre- scat, and in respect of which Board meeting he, to my mind, committed a breach of confidence as complained of by me in the coures of my speech at the Shareholders' mooting on the 15th inst.
