A Chinese was charged with stealing a valve, valued at #2, from the P.W.D. and was sentenced to six months' hard' labour.

ALLEGED THEFT FROM A PEAK .RESIDENCE.

A Chinese was charged with stealing a clock, valued at, 80, from No. 105, the Peak, the residence of Mr. H. Hancock. Capt. Lampert, "A.S.C., prosecuted; and Mr. P. W. Goldring defended.

Captain Lammert said that no-one could say how much coal a launch in the harbour used in one day. It was, there fore, not possible to say how much hai been stolen.

After some discussion. Capt. Lammert said that the approximate quantity was two tons, worth about $60. The charge was amended accordingly.

Mr. Wood remanded the case for the evidence of Mr. Hancock.
