At the Hongkong Magistracy, yester terday, before Me. E. D. C. Wolfe, & Chinese hawker pleaded guilty to hawk- ing vegetables in Jubilee Street without a permit and also with offering a bribe to an Indian constable.
The Magistrate remarked that hawkers were a very great nuisance in that locality.
Sergeant Blackman agreed, and stated that whenever a hawker was arrested in Jubilee Street a erowd collected and attempted to prevent the constable from discharging his duty. Several assaults
had
taken place. The Police were obliged to station two men on duty in that street. Defendant had been fined only a few weeks ago for a similar offence to that with which be was now charged. " The Magistrate said hawkers were be
