It is impossible; however; to overlook the fact that Hongkong does not purses a self-contained Fire De partment and that if there had been such a department the Chief Officer would not

A SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION.

The third annual Dog, Cat, and Poultry Show was held on Saturday in the Jockey Club building at the Race Course and proved an unqualified success. On this occasion a poultry and pigeon section was added.

The entries in the dog section were lewer than on previous occasions, but the exhibits were of an exceptionally high quality. There were fifteen classes for dogs, and the Judges experienced seme dificulty in selecting the winners. The Irish terriers were the only weak class, There was a special class for the best fox terriers in the show, at the head of this stood Mr. CL Howell's Pris cilla." The special prize for the best dog in the show was awarded to Mr. A. Ritchie's Jock, while Mr. McCrae's Trixie won the special cup for the best bitch in the show.

MONDAY, APRIL 29TH, 1918.

Mr H I B. Hancock bought a setting of Rhode Island eggs for 825, and: generously handed them back to bo auctioned again for the benefit of War Charities. Eventually, Mr. R. M. Dyer bought them lot, $30.
