EARLIER CABLES (TANONGH=REUTSR'8-102507.)
GERMANS TRYING TWO ROUTES.
The enemy proceeds by converging attacks, and is trying particularly to advance by two natural routes. The first from the south and northward, following the course of the Avro, which passes Moreail; the second from the ent and westward, following the course of the Luce, which passes Hangard. The strug gle is particularly keen round Hangard, from which the Germans attempted several times to debouch, only to be decimated.
ENEMY HELD ON WHOLE FRONT
At last an impetuous counter attack | brought the French and British troops back to Hangard. Attacks and counter: attacks succeeded here with facinating fortunes, but at the end of the day the Allies had gained ground. The Germans are endeavouring to extend their posi- tions west of Montdidier, to which we are very close, and where, they are invested without being able to debouch. Enemy attacks in the neighbourhood of Albert only amounted to a diversion.
