FAR EASTERN MEN AND THE WAR.
News has been received in Shanghai of the death in action, in France, of Lient, H. E. rollard, 193rd-Fortress Co., Royal Engineers, formerly an engineer- ing assistant in the Public Works Depart nent of the Shanghai Municipal Council. He volunteered for active service inge- diately on the outbreak of war and left with the Suwa Mara contingent in Shortly after arriving October, 1914, home he received a commission in a Lancashire Territorial Battalion, and was afterwards transferred to the 3rd Fortress Company of the Royal Engi neers, and saw service in the Gallipoli campaign.
