Annie Silva obtained distinction in Religions Knowledge and Sewing Maggio Neves in Religious Knowledge, and Sewing, and Carmen Garcia was the third paes with distinction in Religions Knowledge. As only three girls continued their studies in Class 1, it was thought best that they should sit for the Senior Examination this year with the girls of the Italian Convent. The ex- savination was held only a few days ago and it is hoped that they have acquiited themselves creditably and so upheld the reputation of St. Mary's School.

A few hundred yards farther on, across
the top, brings us to the prize set of dug outs. Do not linger on the way, for Fritz shells this good and hard, dey after day. It is rather stiff going, for there are plenty of shell-craters to be skirted.
The great dug-outs, the former Ger man Headquarters, are certainly the finest 1 have ever seen. There is a whole terrace around the roof, partly for ser- vics and partly as a pleasant promenade. There are several entrances. The centre one is marked "Kommandantur. Zollern Haus."...
A few steps bring arto a smiall plat- forn and a few more to a fino upen corridor. The walls and roof are painted white, with a neat decorative design in black. The main staircase. to the first floor runs directly from this. It is a staircase good enough for any private house.
PILE OF WOMEN'S CLOTHES, We euter EL central underground chamber, a fairly large room supported by pillars. Two long, well-cushioned scats, meeting in a kind of cosy corner, are on one side, and facing them is a well-made dark wood table polished in its natural grain. There is a wooden skirting to the wall, about 4ft. high, painted a delicate shade of blee. The whole of the upper part of the wall is covered by a series of Colonial style. panels, dark wood edging with cream- white centres. It is really very effective.
There are other tables for work with telephones (capital telephones) to hand. A stove, electric light, and good leather senta-probably found in the ruined houses near by-complete the apartment. On either side run the offices of the staff, with the kitchens farther on.
All of these are well underground, with mighty covering of earth above. But to make assurance of safety doubly sure, there is still another floor below, equally big, well ventilated, and equally com fortable,
If the German officers had spent a little less time in their dug-outs and a
little more in their trenches things might have gone better with them, said one veteran general to me. On the day of the great battle one officer from this very Kommandantur came out to see what all the disturbance was about. He no more dreamed of capture than Londoners dream in of meeting Prussian Guardsmen Piccadilly. To his surprise some Canad ian soldiers just coming up greeted him and took him off to safety, a

To those girls who sock occupations in marcantile and shipping firms at the end of their school career a theoretical knowledge of the elements of bookkeeping will be specially useful..
The Inspector of Schools remarked in his report that in the Upper Classes work is done daily for War Charities, I may add that the elder girls have been quite delighted that they could help with the sewing of frocka and garments for the children of British and French sol- diers at the Front and also for the little Belgium exiles who have sought sheiter
