FAREWELL CONCERT TO MR. E. 0,

STEWART.

There was an enthusiastic gathering at St. Paul's Collego last evening, when the many friends of Mr. E. G. Stewart (a master at the College), along with the atulents with whom he was exceedingly popular, assembled to bid him bon voyage on his leaving the Colony for war service.

The Bishop of Victoria prended over the gathering, and among those also pre- sent were the Hon. Mr. J. H. Kemp (Attorney-General) and Mrs., Kemp, Major and Mrs. Walmsley, the Rev. G.. E. Upsdell (head master of St. Paul's College) and many others,

The programme, which was supplied by the students, was of a varied and appropriate nature, consisting of Eng lish and Chinese music, along with some Chinese plays, hand-bells, etc.

At an interval in the programme Mr. Stewart was made the recipient of a number of presentations. On behalf of the boys of the College Mr. Tso Chi Ori presented Mr. Stewart with a leather travelling trunk, a safety razor, a case of pipes, an illuminated address and a gold medal, the latter gift being in recognition of his invaluable and inde- fatigable work in connection with the college sports. Mr. Shui Pun, on behalf of the staff of the college, presented Mr. Stewart with a gold wristlet watch with an illuminated dial, and, on behalf of the old boys, Mr. Chan Hung Wah handed Mr. Stewart a gold-mounted fountain

The gifts were handed to the recipient after eulogistic speeches had been made by those who presented the gifts. All the speakers referred to the great popularity of Mr. Stowart, how proud they were of the fact that be was going away to serve his country in her hour of need, and how one' and all wished him success in his new and ad- venturous feld of activities, and a safe return to them again with honour, thick upon him..
