It was on May 1st, 1915, that the series of events that was to break up the happy home of Vorperian began. On that day 1,000 Turkish soldiers suddenly surround. od Kharpool acity of some 40,000 where Turperian, his father, mother, two sisters and little brother lived. All the prominent men of the town were imprisoned save a few tradesmen who were necessary to the Turke For some reason young Vorperian's father was not jailed with the rest. The Turks occupied all the strategic points of the city and amused themselves by torturing their prisoners.
One of the professors in history of Euphrates college, who was known to Vorperian, was beaten with sticks and his hair and nails pulled out. They then barned his beard from his face and final |ly, as a filting climax, he was crucified.
